It originates from Central and Southern Europe, Central Asia, North Africa. It is large deciduous tree with a short trunk and foliage, fast-growing, reaching 30-40 meters in height, with white smooth bark. The leaves are dark green on top with white fluff down, yellow in autumn. It prefers soils cold deep and permeable, but has no special requirements. Also suitable tree and dry soils. As a single plant is used in groups, in malls. Ideal as a windbreak in coastal areas. In urban green areas for roads and parking lots. For coating on slopes and riverbanks. Suitable for forestation in uncultivated areas. Grown for timber.
