Oak tree consists a large group of evergreens and deciduous trees of the Fagaceae family. It has a large and slow growth. The leaves are hard, thorny and have a glossy green surface at the top, whilst at the bottom are fluffy. During summer months it produces green acorns, which when ripe turn brown (October-November). It is used especially in landscape architecture for the formation of a Mediterranean garden, since it is a tree of exceptional resistance to climate’s conditions, but also durable to diseases. The main species of the genus Quercus are Q.ilex, Q.suber, Q.pubescens, Q.rubra.
